RENUMERATION: Do I Get Paid??

SHORT ANSWER

No monetry remuneration is given for stories published as part of the Dark Heart & Night Shade Project at the moment.

LONG ANSWER - THERE'S A VERY GOOD REASON.

The Dark Heart & Night Shade project is a non-profit making project. The key aim is to collect the work of emerging authors and indies and find a new audience for them. Ideally it works on a collaborative / co-operative where authors actively promote the anthology to other readers.

The main aim of the anthologies is to showcase your writing and inform readers where they can access more of your work, and also offers publication experience for authors' resume. Every short story is ended with a full bio, images of other works and links to various platforms (whichever you give us)

We run the Dark Heart & Night Shade blog where we will offer you the chance to have an interview and for you to showcase your work.

In order to maximise the exposure to a potentially new audience, we utilise KDP select promotions, Freebies on Smashwords, Free PDF copies on here and cheapest possible selling on the various platforms.

The anthology is available in Paperback (although these sales are quite small) and you can purchase these at cost.

Any monies that are made from the sale of the anthologies go towards initially covering the costs; which include Cover Art, Artwork licensing, Editing and Production costs (which are subsidised by LBPH and come in at around £200 / $300 for each anthology), and when these have been covered, any spare goes into the charity pot. (The Charity is Young Minds, which is a mental health charity for Adolescents. We will send them a cheque once the pot has reached £200.00 / $250.00; you can check this by the thermometer on the side of the blog)

We sell the anthologies for $0.99 on Amazon UK and £0.99 on Amazon UK. The paperbacks are sold through CreateSpace. The profit margins are very slim - around $0.30 per sale for e-Book. At the moment (Jan 2014) we have sold approx 1200 combined e-Book copies of Dark Heart & Night Shade Volume One bringing in about £360.00 / $520

FUTURE PLANS: AUTHOR'S NEED TO EAT!

We are a growing project and are in the early stages. We are hoping that the project continues to gain momentum and respect - and sales! We are hoping that our Dark Heart & Night Shade Anthology editions for 2015 will be at a stage where we will be able to pay a $25.00 cheque to all our contributors (yeah, it's not a lot, but it's a start - and who knows what the future will hold.) The lovely thing about e-publishing is a prolonged shelf life.

RIGHTS and COPYRIGHT:
You keep the rights to your story completely, all we ask is that you are happy to sign a release form that states you are happy for us to publish a copy of your work in our anthology. Please be aware that you may need to declare that it has been previously published if you are approaching another publisher, press house or competition.
