Introducing you to .... Axel Howerton

Axel Howerton

Today at LBPH we are combining our Introducing You To... blog series (in which we introduce you to our awesome anthology contributors) with a #CoffinHop 2013 blog post. It is our great pleasure and privilege to share the work of Axel Howerton (A Godfather of the Coffin Hop).

As well as introducing you to Axel and his work, there is a copy of the Coffin Hop 2013 anthology: Death by Drive In, up for grabs at the bottom of the post.

Axel has contributed two of his gorgeous poems, 'Ghosts' & 'Cold Sunrise' to the Dark Heart Volume I anthology, and this is a little more about him.

Axel Howerton is the author of the darkly comic bestselling hardboiled/noir "detective" novel Hot Sinatra, and the zombie novella Living Dead at Zigfreidt & Roy. His stories have recently appeared in Fires on the Plain, Steampunk Originals, A Career Guide To Your Job In Hell, Clones Fairies and Monsters in the Closet and the bestselling holiday anthology Let It Snow: Season’s Readings For A Super-Cool Yule.

Axel is a member of the Crime Writers of Canada and the co-creator of the annual Coffin Hop author extravaganza. He lives in the untamed prairies with his two brilliant young sons and a wife who is way out of his league.

ABOUT HOT SINATRA:

Moss cole is a private detective, the kind you thought only existed in old movies and afternoon reruns. He's smart, talented, sometimes even charming. You'd think he could find a better gig tha
n carrying on his grandfather's legacy as a 'Private Dick'. Cole is out of money, out of ideas, and out of his league. That's why he's stuck looking for a stolen Sinatra record ... a record that may just be a figment of an old man's imagination. Of course, if that were true, Moss wouldn't have so many people busting down his door.

Introducing you to ... Jayd Green

In our second post introducing you to our Night Shade Volume 1 authors, it is our pleasure to introduce you to the very talented Jayd Green.

Jayd Green lives in the small town of Lowestoft, where she is currently studying her A-Levels. Her writing hobby began in a long, boring summer four years ago, and the urge to write never faded. She is a writer and reader of YA fiction, loving horror, supernatural and fantasy books. You can follow her on twitter at @jayd_amber and join her in NaNoWriMo under the same username.

INTERVIEW
Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m Jayd Amber Green, seventeen, currently studying my A-Levels and hoping to go on to do Literature and/or creative writing in Uni. I enjoy music, books (obviously), NaNoWriMo and horror films (the scarier, the better!).

When did you start writing ‘seriously’?
Not until the beginning of this year. I’ve been writing on and off for four years now, but this year I decided I’m going to take it seriously, rather than just scribble hundreds of first chapters into an old notebook. I also decided that I would try my best to enter writing competitions and send in submissions.

What is the favourite thing you have ever written? Tell us a little about it.
Most likely my story Weightless, which is my entry into the anthology. It tells the tale of a girl who dies, and becomes a ghost, left to wonder about her old life, and what will happen to her next.

Tell us a little about your book / series?
I’m currently planning/writing  a novel titled ‘Original Sin’. It is set in a highly controlled complex, where children and teens work all day and have no concept of an outside world. Anya however, doesn’t fit in. She fails test after test, has little desire to do any of the jobs assigned to her, and frequently dreams of a world only heard about in stories. Elysia, her friend, would do anything to keep the peace in her home. Elysia ignores the rumors that she hears about what the Leaders do to control residents, but when Anya discovers a door to the outside world, it becomes harder to control Anya’s whimsical and rebellious nature…

Who is your inspiration?
I don’t have any particular people that inspire me, but there’s a strange feeling of admiration I get when I see an author that’s written a lot of books – especially Stephen King and Terry Pratchet. Seeing shelves filled with their books in Waterstones really shows their dedication, and it makes me think that one day that could be me.

What are your hopes and ambitions for the future?
I would love to be a published author, and I would love to travel also.

What would be your advise to aspiring writers?
For a long time my biggest problem was finishing any stories that I’d written. Don’t focus on getting it right the first time – finish the story first, then go back and edit. Most importantly, be committed and stick at it!

Introducing you to.... Edward Drake

It is our great delight to introduce you to the first of our posts introducing you to the contributors of Night Shade (Volume I). Today's post is all about Edward Drake; Author of 'The Warrior's Journey and The Stormheart Chronicles, he is also the author of the short story 'A Beaten and Haunted Heart' which will showcase in this anthology.

About 'A Beaten and Haunted Heart.'
Drake's story is a classic old-school haunting story with a nicely gruesome twist. Set in The Tower of London, 'A Beaten and Haunted Heart' takes the reader on a thrilling mini historical adventure, whilst introducing us to some beautifully developed twenty-first century characters.

Edward Drake writes in the fantasy, horror and Sci-Fi genre. He has written several full length novels and many short stories.

Drake's, 'The Warrior’s Journey' series is an epic fantasy set in a mystical dark age, where monsters roam the plains, mages wield powerful sorcery, and arguments are settled by the honour of the blade.
"From start to finish, I was hooked" (Goodreads Review)

His  series, 'The Stormheart Chronicles', chart the story of Marek Rhihart, a young warrior with a burning ambition for conquest. His actions of bravery, and his skill with a blade preceded him, making him known as The Stormheart. As his adventures go on, both him and the reader learn more about the force inside that keeps him alive against all of the odds. Leaving a river of blood in his wake, he begins to wonder if his abilities are a curse rather than a blessing.

About Edward Drake:

He is an avid reader and keen runner and cyclist, always pushing to improve with a dozen projects on the go and a mind for adventure.
Having moved to London to continue a management career in the NHS, Edward returned to a story he’d written several years previously during his studies. Rewriting the tale almost from scratch, Destiny was created as the first book in the fantasy series The Warrior’s Journey. Shortly after, Darkness, the second book in the series, was written and the rest of the four book series fully planned. At present he is currently writing the third book, HopeThe Warrior’s Journey series is to be published by Anarchy Books in 2013.
Additionally he had a short story, The Cost of Glory, published in a collection Day of Demons, published by Anarchon Press. This is to be expanded into its own collections, Stormheart: Legend and Stormheart: Myth,  published by Anachron Press in spring 2013.
He now lives in Norwich, England and continues to write.

Countdown to Night Shade Volume One

The crew here at LBPH are getting squeal-y excited about the forthcoming publication of 'Night Shade' Volume One. After months of submissions, editing and production, we are almost ready to hit the e-Book publish button and not far off holding the first print copy in our muddy little paws.

We have timed the release of Night Shade to coincide with the international blog extravaganza that is 'Coffin Hop' and we are honoured to announce the inclusion of poetry from two big names in the Coffin Hop community. Axel Howerton, father of the Coffin Hop event, and best selling author of Hot Sinatra, and Red Tash, best selling author of alternative horror novel Troll or Derby have kindly offered  some of their powerful horror poetry towards the anthology contents. For this we bow lowly and sweep our top hats at our kind horror homies.

As well as this awesome duo, we are finally pleased to announce the official line up for Volume One of Night Shade, and it is as follows;

A Beaten And Haunted Heart by Edward Drake

On a Pale Bus by Red Tash

The Haunting of Heartmoore House by Katie M. John

Weightless by Jayd Green

Ghosts by Axel Howerton

The Gatherers by Laurie Lyons

Sound Of The Night by Katie M. John

Dark Saviour by Petra Pavlikova

Cold Sunrise by Axel Howerton

One Is In, The Other Is Out by Sergio Palumbo

A Fairytale Ending by Katarina Emgård

Over the next couple of weeks we shall be hosting each of our contributing authors on here for an interview and spotlight on their other work.

The anthology will be available on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com from 25th of October in e-Book format for just $0.99c and in paperback from November 1st for $10.99.

As with our sister anthology 'Dark Heart', it isn't really about profit, (we'd give it away if Amazon would let us) It's about connecting readers with new, exciting authors and sharing stories. Any meagre profits we do make will be going to a charity of the authors' choice. So as well as being a totally awesome way of discovering new authors, it's also doing a little bit of good in the world.

Be sure to stop by regularly for more information about the release of 'Night Shade' and also more about the awesomeness that is Coffin Hop.

Wishing you love and safe scares,
The LBPH Team x
