Introducing you to ... Andrea Janes

Here in the Little Bird Publishing House office, we're incredibly excited about the forthcoming release of Volume I of our YA paranormal Romance and Fairy Tale anthology, Dark Heart.

We are currently in the final stages of finalising all the administration  for the eight authors whose works are going to be included - and what a line up we have - we  just know that you are going to love them.

So it is our great pleasure to publish the first of our posts introducing you to our authors.

Andrea Janes
Author of 'Glamour', a tale of teen-witchcraft in small-town modern America.
"Next to Reese, I was a troll. Short and sweaty, dark and hairy; half-Portuguese. I had a nose of substance, with pores of great capacity. Eyebrows that required vigilant maintenance. And very large, very unfortunate D-cups that were a burden and a curse."
When the teenager, Christina finds herself developing certain 'paranormal' gifts, she has no idea that they are about to land her in a whole lot of trouble. Growing up in a highly competitive small-town community, where your worth is measured by the college you're planning on attending and which brand of t-shirt fits your perfect size 6 hips, Christina struggles to find her place ... so imagine her surprise when she has the opportunity to suddenly see things from a very different point of view.

Andrea Janes lives in Brooklyn, New York, where she spends her time writing speculative fiction and conducting ghost tours of the city. Her short stories have been published in numerous journals, magazines and anthologies. She is also the author of 'Boroughs of the Dead', a collection of ghost stories set in and around New York.

“Like the best of the pulps, the narratives are creepy, darkly comical and elegantly composed, with lovingly detailed descriptions of place and an ample whiff of lurid decay.” – FANGORIA
Imbued with the chilling undertone that inhabits all of New York’s five boroughs, BOROUGHS OF THE DEAD is an entertaining, varied and infectious take on things that go bump in the New York City nights. A collection of ten stories that range from the waning days of the 18th Century to the present time, this macabre collection mixes in a bit of historical fact, a hearty measure of local color and plenty of honest-to-goodness creepiness. Partly inspired by true events and partly figments of the author’s evil imagination, these terrifying fictions take their inspiration from Gotham’s darkest histories.

Author Andrea Janes deftly inhabits her characters with a style that evokes their time and place with authenticity and allows us to see the world and its subtle terrors through their eyes. Read BOROUGHS OF THE DEAD on a sunny afternoon in a cheerful environment and then go on about your business. That way, as the shadows lengthen and the sunlight wanes, you can let the true effect of the book seep in and enfold you in its deliciously dreadful embrace…
